Monte Alem faces south east in the hills behind the lovely river and seaside town of Tavira,it has stunning views 270 degrees around the house,of the tiny village of Alcaria Fria and the hills and sea towards Tavira.It is set on its own hill in a totally peaceful and private setting,the hills around are covered with eucalyptus,cork,orange,lemon,and olive trees,which are green all times of the year and a heaven on earth in the spring.The house is in a country setting but close enough for amenities,and beaches if required. The Eastern Algarve,is very much less developed than the centre of the coast which in places has reached saturation point,much of the countryside on this part of the Algarve is a conservation area to pervent overdevelopement. To the west of Faro is Tavira which is the main town of the area,a lovely unspoilt river town sitting on an estuary next to Tavira Island which has some stunning lagoon and oceanside beaches (much less crowded than other Algarve beaches even in high summer. Tavira itself has numerous restaurants and bars around the town and next to the river,where a wide range fish,meat and poultry is available.The Spanish border is a 25kms away and a 2hr drive will take you to the fabulous spanish city of Seville.
