Algarve Accommodation
Today, the Algarve region, served by the international airport
in Faro, has a large hotel capacity that
is concentrated in the areas of Albufeira/Vilamoura, Portimão/Rocha,
Monte Gordo in the east and Lagos in the
west, providing all manner of accommodation from Five-star-hotels,
up-market tourist complexes and apartment hotels to B&B's and campsites
in constant demand throughout the year. There is also a large number
of self catering accommodation available in the Algarve from large
private villas to smaller cottages
and apartments.
In addition to the many hotels and Pensões, often called Residenciais
or Residencial scattered throughout the regions of Portugal, there
are also old monasteries, castles and palaces converted to hotels
some established by the State and designated Pousadas. This type
of accommodation should be pre-booked (ENATUR-Pousadas of Portugal).
The rural tourism board (TER) has at your disposal an enormous variety
of lodgings in marvelous farms and manor houses, where you will
get a warm family welcome. In all hotel establishments, restaurants,
and tourist agents, a complaints book is obligatory.
